Film and Television is a competitive industry to get into. But we’re here to tell you that there are lots of ways to get your foot in the door. This course will broaden your view of the industry and help you forge routes through key roles in all areas of film and television production. You bring creativity and a drive to work hard, and we’ll give you the technical know-how, experience and theoretical understanding to find your path.

You’ll be getting your hands on industry-standard equipment to set-up, capture and edit professional level videos and you’ll leave us with a top-quality, two minute showreel that let’s the world know you’re out there. We’ll also equip you with an understanding of how to get your films noticed in competitions and festivals. 

 

This course is about getting you ready for your career, and part of that is learning professional standards on set, experiencing multiple crew roles and directing actors and crew. We give you the competitive edge. Not only that, but you’ll be spending everyday on a living and breathing film and television set at The Bottle Yard Studios. 

 

All of our classrooms are placed within central working hubs, which put you right where the creative industries are, immersing you in the atmosphere and letting you rub shoulders with the people putting Bristol on the map for innovation and disruption.

Structure.

Lighting

3 and 4 point, high and low key, mood and effect, colour temperature.

Sound

Foley recording, on-location, boom operation, dialogue, microphone selection.

Camera

Professional production skills, manual settings, sensor types (full frame, 35mm, APS-C), dynamic range, white balance, cine lenses.

Software

Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop.

Post-production

Colour grading and LUTS, recording formats, visual effects, motion tracking, masking, compositing, title/screen design, transitions, interview set-up and techniques, cinematography, rigging and follow focus, scriptwriting (characters, narrative, formatting, adaptations).

Extras

Two minute showreel, professional standards on set, experience in multi crew roles, understanding and meeting competition and festival guidelines, directing actors and crew.

Welcome to the West of England’s largest dedicated film and television studio facility.

 

Your classroom is slap-bang in the middle of The Bottle Yard Studios, home of Broadchurch, Poldark and Deal or No Deal. It is a network of more than 20 businesses delivering a host of services for the film and television industry. You will be immersed in a working film and television studio with a chance to peek behind the curtain and soak up the atmosphere. 

 

The location of this course is designed to give you a realistic lens to look at the industry through. You’ll see first-hand, the various roles and jobs that collaborate to make the magic happen onscreen, the hard work required to succeed and the real career options for you.
