The Course in 30 Seconds.
An Introduction.
A new dynamic approach to industry engaged filmmaking education. This course has been co-designed with our industry partners to teach the specific skillset employers are looking for, while supporting and developing your creative identity.
You will explore every part of the post-production process, including post-production coordination and supervision, editing, assistant editing, colour grading, soundtrack laying, ADR, foley, sound mixing and elements of visual effects. You will also develop a fundamental understanding of key production skills in your first year and continue to collaborate with students on the Filmmaking Production course.
We cap our intake at 20 places so that you can receive more tailored tuition as you move through the three years. This enables you to find your own voice and discover where your strengths, skills and interests lie so you can figure out what area of film and television production you want to move into and how to do it.
Teaching is intensive across four days of the week and includes screenings, lectures, seminars, workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions with both technical and academic staff. Our Films@59 and The Bottle Yard Studios partnerships mean you get valuable, ongoing work experience opportunities, guest speakers and departmental site visits.
You’ll be using AVID, Da Vinci, Pro Tools and more, for individual and course work and live projects for real clients. You’ll also learn how to use process and software from industry professionals to ensure your training is of the level expected by employers.

The Structure.
To prepare you for the professional working environment, this course is structured into a four day week. In addition to being taught in our creative hubs, this degree places you at the heart of Bristol, a UNESCO City of Film, where you can be responsive to industry dynamics, to learn relevant skills and build your networks.
Our industry partners include The Bottle Yard Studios, BBC Factual Bristol and Films@59, meaning your teaching will be informed directly by post-production coordinators and supervisors, editors, edit assistants, colourists, soundtrack layers, ADR, foley and mixers to guide you through the reality of post-producing high quality work in actual scenarios. Alongside the practical, theoretical and technical skills you will learn, there will be considerable focus on collaboration, communication, soft skills and professional working.
