Photographers, artists and curators working with all lens-based media, who are based in the South West, have the opportunity to apply for a six-week studio and darkroom residency with boomsatsuma Photography School Bristol in its new facility at Tobacco Factory.
The six available residency opportunities, which will run consecutively in term time between 20 September 2021 and 17 July 2022, will give artists the space, freedom and resources to develop new, or consolidate ongoing, work with the opportunity for exhibition at the new boomsatsuma gallery at Tobacco Factory.
The selected artists will be supported by teaching staff and given access to the darkroom, studio, library, software, lectures, screenings and workshops. In residency with students and faculty at boomsatsuma, artists will teach on one of the BA (Hons) Documentary Photography and Print block weeks, providing an opportunity to workshop areas of interest with students.
Course leader, Samuel Fordham said:
"For the artists, the residencies provide the opportunity, space and resources to create new work and uniquely, workshop ideas with students, who bring new perspectives, in a dynamic setting. For students, having an artist-in-residence will have an incredible impact on the culture of the space, being able to work side by side with a practicing artist is an opportunity made possible only at boomsatsuma.”
Residency Dates:
Residency 1: 20th September - 31st October
Residency 2: 1st November - 12th December
Residency 3: 3rd January - 13th February
