With over 35 years’ experience in the creative industries, I am currently Head of R&D at Satore Studio, a multi-disciplinary creative-led studio, formed of artists, technologists and visionaries. We do 'cool stuff' that inspires people through Lighting, Art, Entertainment and Technology, and my job is to nurture talent, solve problems, create pipelines, and encourage change.
Before that I was Head of Digital FX at the National Film and Television School. I set up the Visual and Special FX courses in 2005, introducing a new level of storytelling to the NFTS film TV and Games projects, many of which became international award-winners. I also set up the digital post production course and pipeline at the NFTS. For 16 years we taught countless students from every background how to create VFX or colour grade and finish film and TV projects, almost all of whom now work in the creative industries. I’m currently an EA at the London College of Fashion and have lectured at numerous festivals and events for the Royal Television Society, the AHRC, Encounters and the BFI Future Film Festival.
Prior to that I spent 20 years in various roles within TV, film, technology and education, from designing and creating VFX and graphics as a flame artist and trainer, to developing new software tools. I’ve worked with many companies around the world from the BBC to MTV, to VFX companies in London like men-from-mars, and technology developers in the UK and Germany like 5D, Imagineer and DVS. Random projects worked on range from a Star Wars board game to ET for BT, as well as commercials, pop promos, TV title sequences, film grading, VFX for movies, hundreds of short films, 360 video and, now, immersive theatre.
